so i also posted this on face book but, kinda surprised by the lack of response my next cast project will be for my 760 in 30-06. i inherited from my wife’s grand fathers estate. i’m not sure where to start. i was thinking maybe either the lyman 211299 or the NOE clone. any other good molds out there? im not well versed in 30-06 like i should be.

if i wanted to keep the velocity around 1500 ish the lyman 211299 or the noe clone would be a good place to start ? i’m assuming if i wanted to go faster i would probably need a lighter bullet? is 1.5 inch group doable? from what little on facebook i’ve gotten people are tickled to get 2 inches at 100. the one guy was bragging about 2 inches with his 30-30

i don’t really plan on hunting with it. mainly just a range gun where are longest shot is 200 yards. ideally i’d like for postal shoots with the cba in stock hunter class.

i have not slugged the barrel yet. i will get that done before i buy the mold. right now for powder i have red dot, unique, 740, and varget that from what i’ve seen in the lyman manuals that could work.

Dad had one. It was more minute of coffee cup than minute of angle, but I was a kid and didn't really know how to shoot a rifle (accurately) at the time.

I have heard of lots of 760's being accurate, but I have personally never seen one match a good bolt action.

There are a plethora of .30 caliber molds that should work for you.

I'd kind of like to have one again to play with, but I have way too many other projects in the line right now.

I had a 7600P. It had a 16" bbl and shot 3-4 MOA with 3X scope. I killed lots of pigs an deer with Ranch Dog 165 cast bullets at 1600-1800 fps. All shots taken at 25 to 75 yards. If you are not hunting, buy the Lee 160 gr. RN with gas check. It is easily the most accurate of lee cast bullets. 10-12 grs Red Dot would be a good start to wring accuracy out of your rifle.

I had a Remington 760 in 30-06 years ago and while the accuracy was not as good as SOME of my bolt guns, it was still able to print groups in the 1 1/2" range at 100 yards. It was responsible for harvesting a number of hogs and feral goats with the old NEI 170gr. FP ahead of Unique powder.
