Picked up what I thought was three small bars of lead at the local gunshow this morning. Didn't really look that them. Two are marked CERROLOW-136 ALLOY. I did the web search on this stuff, pricey, but does it have any use in our hobby?

Eutectic Alloy
Contains the following metals - Bismuth, Lead, Tin, and Indium
Melting Temperature 136ºF or 57.8º C
Density .31 lbs./In3 8.8 g/cc
Initially expands then shrinks to .0000" in one hour, stable in 5 hours at -.0002" per inch.
Alloy is used in anchoring parts for machining (turbine blades, jet blades); testing, inspection, block lenses in optical manufacturing, proof casting; fusible element in safety devices (sprinkler heads); fusible cores in compound cores; low temperature solder; sealing adjustment screws and many craft applications.

Dunno what I'd do with it if I had it.

Can it be used for chamber casts?

Can it be used for chamber casts?

that depends what it's shrink time is. The material sounds pretty close to Cerrosafe.

Not sure. I read the same specs on line that TD1886 noted above, melt temp and shrinkage looks like maybe a guy could. Something different though as this stuff lists for about $60 a pound and CeroSAFE about $15.

I don't like that it has Indium in it. Read the link.

sometimes a specialty alloy like that you can sell for quite a bit and then buy a whole lot more of alloy more commonly used for casting bullets. but finding the proper customer would most like involve fleabay or another online website

I didn't see anything in that MSDS that would cause me to think it is unsafe to handle or use. Probably safer than lead.
