good evening;

saw a blurb claiming alliant e3 was a more dense powder version of red dot. has anyone used Alliant E3 powder as a substitute for red dot powder for cast bullets. using red dot in 375h&h with 285 gas check bullet.

thanks for any input.

In many cases when powder companies leave certain powders out in the reloading data that they provide, there is a real good reason for it.

I like E3. 45acp is all I have used it for. To me it's like Clays. When you get to a certain point it really takes off. I like other fast burning pistol powders better but you have to get what you can.

I don't know about the speed of e3, but do know that Promo is the equal of Red Dot, measured by weight NOT volume.

Yes I use it like Red Dot wt for wt in cast loads. I am using it for the "load" type loads ......fast burning shot gun powder in cast rifle loads.

I don’t use it but a buddy uses it in 9mm and from his reports it sounds very much like clays and VV N310
