A friend was unloading their father's 30AW and managed to jam it when they ejected the last round. Any ideas on how to clear it?https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230726/322ec0ef755c15b725a232100d2a24b1.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230726/7da1ad4f63a06410fe96e732f069daf9.jpg

I’d start by tightening the lever screw first.
It shouldn’t be sticking out like that.

I think Texas by God nailed it but if not do a web search for "Marlin Jam" It's common will the 1894 Marlins used by the cowboy shooters. Never heard of it with the 336 but very similar internals.

Standard operation when done cleaning weapon after shooting is to check all screws just cause. After tightening still stuck, straighten out paper clip with small 90 on end and lift follower. Oh, and please use the correct screwdrivers!

I had loosened the lever screw in an effort to remove the lever and bolt. Everything was bound up. I retightened it and was able to gently work the loading gate loose from the top of the carrier. The screw that holds the loading gate was loose. Tightening that screw stopped the jamming. It hasn't been cleaned or fired since the 80s. I am hoping the grandson will clean it up and start shooting it.

Thanks for the repair details. That's a new one for me but it may come in handy in the future.

.

Besides a loose loading gate screw, a Marlin's loading gate can lose it's spring tension, also jamming the lifter.

$12 for a replacement + a few minutes to install the new loading gate will have it purring.

ive had that happen on an 1894 marlin. had to take out lever, bolt, trigger guard/floorplate then had to gently persuade round out with popsicle sticks, and finally needle nose and screw driver to get stuck round out. still not sure what the cause is on certain rounds. I'm thinking maybe COL, but it could be any screws that are just a little bit loose can make things a bit uneven inside even a magazine tube screw.
