Also in the mix with all the old reloading tools I inherited is this. It appears to be for removing primers?? As pictured , the 30-40 Krag is too small, & the 45-70 is too big. Any thoughts..

You wouldn’t remove them from that direction anyway. A hole puncher for something like a leather belt?

Less I'm badly mistaken that's a Berdan primer remover tool. Rim seat looks quite large.........you are gonna have to do some diggin there.

I agree, Berdan decapping tool. I use a similar design for 303 British.

Measure the opening and compare with the charts in Cartridges of the World. There are probably several cartridge families that would work on with a rim diameter between the .30-40 and .45-70.

If the pointed ‘punch’ is for depriming the tool would have to be for a short cartridge, otherwise the arm holding the punch would crush the case rim. Even then the arc movement of the punch would be at an extreme angle to enter the case and align with the flash hole. It does look like just to the right of the punch (in the top photo) there is a primer seating anvil that aligns with the scalloped out area of the lower handle.
Maybe the punch and anvil are in the wrong holes. The punch looks like it would deprime if it was in the anvil hole. Do both the punch and anvil fit into both holes in the upper handle?

The punch for pressing in the primer is penned on top , so it is not removable. The spike for removing the primmer can be screwed in & out for the proper setting.

In the first picture there is a little nub behind what is being described as the de-priming pin. Is that nub a primer pocket swager?

Sasquatch-1,

Just guessing here, but I think that is the primer seating pin/ ram. There is a hollow for a case to sit under it.

Correct. It has a hollow in it. Plus , what would be the primer seater has cup ( picture doesn't show it ) in it that would fit over a primer to seat it in. ingenious old tool. I assume for a very specific cartridge.

On ebay, the seller calls this one a Remington primer remover and replacement tool.
It's probably caliber specific.

Could be for depriming 410 shot shells
