I cast the Lyman 45 gr round nose which is gas checked. I use Lyman #2 alloy and powder coat with powder by the pound product. My problem comes when seating the gas check, sometimes the gas check doesn't snap on and falls off in the bullet box. This doesn't happen when I use my Lubri sizer. What am I doing wrong? Forgot to mention I use the Lee push through sizer on the powder coated bullets.

The boolit shank is undersized.
Here is two little tricks that sometimes help.
1. cast a larger boolit by casting with a cooler mold.
2. Run the boolit through the Lee die, first without the GC, then again a second time with the GC.
Good Luck.

It is not unusual to have a little variation in sizer diameters, even if marked with the same diameter. Your crimp on the gas check might not be complete.

What I would do is turn the lube pressure OFF on your luber sizer and size the PC bullets with the gascheck in that. In fact I size the bullets I'm going to pc in my lubersizer, with the lube pressure turned off, with the gascheck before I pc and bake them. Then I size them again to make sure they didn't get too fat from the pc'ing.

TD1886, do you powder coat with the gas check already installed, is that how I read that?

A small dab of Super Glue will keep gas checks in place. Fast drying just don't get it on you.

Yes you read that correctly and I haven't any trouble doing it that way.

Thanks to all who replied. Using the Luber size to seat the gas checks appears to have solved the problem.

What is the advantage to using the gas check with powder coat? I thought that’s why everyone got into powder coating was to get away from lube/checks?

I make a PC after installing the GC, I couldn't find a better solution

although lately, I make a PC first, then I put the GCs, and I make the second PC

if you are using lyman gas checks, try the hornady I think they crimp on better

It's also possible the shanks are too big after powder coating. You can measure OAL of a handful of bullets before and after installing the checks. If the variation significantly increases, your checks are being crimped on without fully seating. The checks on the bullets with long OAL are the ones that will fall off, easily. They're barely hanging on by the mouth of the check.
