Playing with the hornet some more.
Last post I was using H110 and found it was giving me a lot of unburnt powder. Decided to use 4227 this time as it's a big favorite of many and honestly it's just super dirty. This was my barrel after the first fiver rounds

If it was your first shot, and from a cold, clean barrel--- that's pretty common.
For that reason, some people will get their hunting rifle sighted in like they want,
then won't clean the barrel until they're done for that season.

Some of that need to clean at the end of a day's shooting concept goes back to the old corrosive primer days.
With modern primers and smokeless powders:
Now days, If you don't live in a 90 plus percent humidity swamp-it's more of a myth.

Try firing one (fouling) shot,,,, then go for your group.

I use 4227 for duplex under blackpowder and it runs about as clean as that patch............................................. .........

both have burnout after the muzzle.
Try cfepistol or blue dot.

4227 is like any powder. It is completely burned when it is at max. Load it too light and you have lots of unburned powder.

4227 is the last powder I’d use in a Hornet. L’il Gun is my first choice, and has been for over 20 years.

With J-word I have always used H110 but I have been playing with the Lil' Gun and it looks good. Just for fun I tried a NOE 225-39-FN with 2.4 grains of Trail Boss to simulate a 22lr. 25 yards, 10 rounds 1 large hole. Hornets are so fun!!

With jacketed and 4227, around 10-11 gr your groups tighten up and you really get clean burning. I am not surprised at the fouling at that powder amount.
