I saw the national weather report and saw where the high temp in Lake Havasu was predicted to be 118 degrees today! Stay hydrated Larry Gibson, maybe you can run a test on the effects of heat and pressure and velocity. And I thought 98 here in Alabama was hot!

Lived in Bullhead Ciry Arizona for 23 years. Most 4th of July's 116 degree's was common. If their predicting 118 for Havasu is really gonna be 123 degree's in Larry's backyard.

I was warned that H110 loaded into .44 mag, bounced in a hot car for awhile, and fired at 100F+ will increase in pressure. No doubt. But how much or how to test this idea? I eagerly await test results!

I did my part at -40, testing velocities of H110 & various primers until the batteries in the chrono froze. Found spread in velocity but the Ruger turned black from condensing smoke. Rem-oil worked fine on the 1911, and SRH. Only failure was my fingers.

Fingers are also a problem above 115F, most things are too hot to touch.
Arizona is a dry heat, Alaska is a dry cold.
My old fingers prefer heat. That Super Redhawk has also been tested dripping wet. Great gun!

"That Super Redhawk has also been tested dripping wet. Great gun!" I agree. I firmly believe it is the best double action revolver ever made. A lot of people say they are ugly but I AINT in that camp.

Had some time on the Salcha river on a jet boat
Every time I got on the nose, like to get ashore
#1 son thought was great fun to rev reverse, and over I went
swimming with a Super Redhawk
First time I came sputtering out of the river
new to firearms
with my new to me firearm
says I how am I going to dry this gun now?
says he shoot it.
Come to find out the blast of that hand cannon dries it nicely.
Then a Ruger Remoil bath, just wait til I get you home.
Never did shoot a brown bear, my wife scared them off.

That dry heat in Lake Havasu is probably a lot easier on guns than the constant rain in Ak along the Cook Inlet where a friend has his cabin. I carried a 629 S&W every time I go there and it has twice took a dip in the Kenai River (with me). I dried it out next to the wood stove and it did just fine. No wonder stainless guns are so popular in AK.

117 in Bullhead City/Laughlin yesterday.
Yes, it’s Oven Hot.
Not Microwave Hot like the 109 / 70%humidity that we left in North Texas last week!
I love staying amongst the boulders on the Cerbat Range above Kingman!
Larry, I’ll catch you next time!

118 degrees is hot! I’m glad I live at an altitude higher than the most other people around me. I’ll always take cold over hot. I guess that’s why I preferred winter to summer in Alaska.

South Carolina is no treat right now...... We're only hitting mid-upper 90s, but with afternoon humidity pushing 70-80% it's not good math. Heat indexes in the 107-112 range. Ugh....

Having lived in AZ for a number of years.....and then moving here, I'll take a 'dry' 115 over this any time!!

When I was 'a student at Chico State University in the Northern Central Valley, we were often next to the hottest place in the nation, Red Bluff CA. They probably had a weather station there. It would approach or reach 120 degrees there. People become very nocturnal.

Amen to the dry part. I worked in Biloxi Ms during the aftermath of Katrina and the humidity was so bad, if you took a deep breath, you might get a minnow hung in your throat! Seriously, the humid weather is lot worse than dry heat. Not to minimize 118 degrees but the day the air cond got turned on in the casino, we threw a beer (what else) party.

I like summer in the desert.
Coffee on the patio in the sun at dawn. 85F in the shade.
Nice to remember how bonechilling cold
Alaska rivers can get in the summer.

I was on the roof of the Fred Meyers in Fairbanks
north wall temp was 105 F said the rack control at 7PM
the refrigeration racks crashed because they were built for 95F
Produce, meat freezer, reach-ins, deli, all in alarm.
Was a smokey summer, the condensers fouled with tarry smoke.
Easy fix, wash the coils, startup slowly.
1AM the sun went behind the hill in a smoke red sunset
by then the whole store was back to temp.
Alaska's endless day can get hot and smell like a fire at the dump.
but so can the desert.
At least Alaska doesn't have rattlesnakes.

118 is pretty warm. Having lived in Arizona, and Iowa, I can say that I would much rather be in Arizona at 118 than in Iowa at 95. The humidity makes all the difference.

Hottest I've been was in the Mojave desert at Fort Irwin for ATC. Late 90's or so. Was 125 degrees. You had to wear leather gloves to get on your tank or else you would get burned. And then you had to be careful because the rubber in our boots would melt when walking on the dark green tanks. It was like walking on sticks of butter in a frying pan. Lots of soldiers went down with heat exhaustion.

Most miserable heat was in the Persian Gulf. 117 degrees with 88% humidity due to being close to the sea. Never stopped sweating the entire time. Just drank water constantly, with gatorade thrown in occasionally to replace electrolytes.

And that was when I was in SEAL physical condition.

Today, I get overheated when it's over 90 and work for more than a few minutes.

The most miserable invention when used on hot humid LA. nights ... the Attic Fan !

Thank you Dear Lord for allowing me to have a central HVAC unit installed a few years ago ... I am truly Blessed .

Check out the book! Willis Haviland Carrier: Father of Air Conditioning.

His first application of air-conditioning was to control temperature and humidity in tobacco processing rooms. Instantly turning that job into one that wasn't hated.

My son grew up here in Texas and said the hottest area he's ever seen was while stationed in Iraq during the second Gulf War. He said they would lay out on the sand during range practice; it was the only time he ever needed an IV from a medic to get rehydrated. He felt sorry for the northern boys who weren't used to the heat - they spent a lot of time in recovery stations. I just checked and it's running 117 to 119 this week in Baghdad.

119 degrees and a sand pile for a duty station! That ought to pay double. My heart is with those troopers for sure. I did Med Training Center at Fort Sam Houston
Tx, and July is no picnic there either. After Ft Polk,La, i just THOUGHT I was ready to vamoose from there!
BTW, it is a crying shame that out veterans get 1 day of recognition and LGBTQ, or whatever the initials are, get a MONTH!

The numbers on a thermometer around here won’t impress anyone but I promise, 98-100F, as we’ve had the past few weeks, along the Gulf Coast is absolutely oppressive. I’ve lived in the Central Valley of California and in Southeast New Mexico where the mercury climbs much higher. In the desert you can step into the shade of a tree in a grass yard and feel immediate relief at 105 degrees. On the Gulf Coast the humidity is everywhere. It slows the evaporation of perspiration to the point of not cooling. Even 95 degrees in the shade is very hot.

I do think the news is making way to much on this summers heat the couple degrees over the last summers is not really life threatening . The fear the news spreads probably causes more harm!

Here in Michigan we are on the cool side for summer did not hit 80 degrees yesterday .

Something else the news is pretty much ignoring is the sun is nearing a high energy cycle that is supposed to peak next year . This is why the northern lights have been active and will get more active in the coming months . The sun has much more effect on the weather then anything we do here on earth.

FL is more than many can stand, not unusual to have 100/100 days in july and August. Gulf rain storms move in every afternoon, drop rain and it gets real steamy.
The Ranger's Jungle School, Yellow River Swamp, Camp Rudder, is just south of us, so those guys are gong through some "good trainng" right now.
I grew up in the Glades near the big lake, without electricity, so, you do expect the heat during the "Dog Days."

My real problem with the heat is that it’s no fun standing in the sun flying my radio controlled airplanes. We’re getting a break today; forecast is for 95. It’s battleship day, working on the big guns of the USS Texas in an open shop so I’m grateful for the break. I read a comment elsewhere a few days ago from someone in Scandinavia griping that it was hitting 77 degrees F there and he just wasn’t used to that kind of heat. Also saw a post from a high school classmate talking about it not feeling so hot 50-55 years ago when we were kids.

My "question" is whether we -- humans -- can adapt to this temperature increase, which I keep reading and hearing about, "is here to 'stay'"??? In the late 1960s when I moved north there was an annual Ice Carnival -- with chainsawed ice statues complementing many "regular" winter activities -- ice skating, snow showing, and the like. In the nation's capitol (Ottawa) the event to look forward to, annually, was "Winterlude" which ran for a couple of weeks each February. The entire Rideau River, down to Landsdown Park became a wonderland of merchants and wonderful events, ALL on this now frozen waterway. Each year, it seems, the winters have become less cold -- more pronounced to me, than warmer summers...
Will this "trend" -- 'specially the super-hot summer temps -- be continuing? I am most distressed re all living in the south/southwest USA at present. BUT, if this warming trend continues.... five years from now?????

I am a "Man Made Climate Change Denier". But; I do believe that we are at the end of the warming trend after the Little Ice age; with movement to cooler/colder temps in the next 100 years due to Solar activity, the "Wobbles of the Earth", and the orbital eccentricities of the Solar System.

But - My wife does talk of the Rivers Freezing up in New York city when she was very young; which does not happen anymore according to her friends and family still in New York.

Forty three years ago this month I was working morning tower on a directional gas well (North Texas).
It was 100 degrees at midnight two nights in a row.
The highest it got was 115 during the day.
A co worker got his hand burned from picking up a pipe wrench laying in the sun.
It hasn’t been that hot here since; but it’s gotten close a couple of years.

South of Tucson, we're finally getting monsoon thunderstorms.
Little dog Chico woke me up at 5AM to let him out before it rained.
He flaps his ears next to mine quietly so he doesn't wake up his mommy.
We must never wake up mommy.
Now it's 8AM thundering and pouring down rain.

Neighbors say they caught them all and sold them to PetSmart.
Big tarantulas sell for $30-$300, price depending if they're pretty.

Scorpions and centipedes, though, make poor pets.

We are up on a hill here looking down at the Santa Cruz river
I can see a glorious thunderstorm two miles away putting down bolts everywhere
black microburst blowing 60mph under it.
These desert thunderstorms are fast and furious and then gone.
When they fire on the mountains, there is no putting it out.
Lightning can make a candle out of a palm tree.
(Did you know palm trees are an invasive species?)

One night wife was watching TV with her headphones turned up
lightning blew apart a mesquite in our backyard.
"What was that?" she asked.
"Just lightning", I replied.
"Thank You, Lord" I said to Him.

We are visiting child #1 who is stationed in Texas. Its been a fairly consistent 103-105. Did I mention I'm dying?

Interestingly, back home in NY we've been having a heat wave, which is 3 or more consecutive days in the 90s. It's been one of the hottest July's in memory. Most of the month has been, and with it staying warm enough overnight that we run the AC continuously. That's rare, usually it will cool off over night. We also do have that miserable humidity, and I will admit I noticed the lack of such despite the heat

This weather is nothing new it is all a cycle and the sun is hitting a maximum output next year so expect it to continue . All that heat will put more water vapor in the air so more clouds will cause the earth to cool none of this is man made those that claim it is are liars!
The news is crying this is the hottest on record in 12000 years even NASA had to say enough is enough we have only taken records since 1880 !

Something else I caught in a news story the weather started reporting ground temperatures rather then air temperatures this raises the morning lows by a few degrees !

Yesterday all the crying was about a bay off key west that hit a record 100 degrees water temperature fact is it had been 98 degrees last year big deal but the fear is real!

Born and raised here in AZ. Seen it all. On our hottest record day ever, 122, back in 1991, I was on my motorcycle on the concrete freeway headed downtown to discuss a matter with my boss, even though it was my day off. The air was so hot, it would get up under my fingernails and burn, making me want to let go of the handlebars. I had to lean forward so I could turn my hands slightly backwards to keep from burning my sensitive fingernail undersides. And with such low humidity, flying at 70mph through that dry air just sucked the moisture right out of you. At 3pm, the hottest part of the day, I could only go 5 miles, then had to pull off into a McDonalds or similar place and suck down a large soda and just chill out in the a/c for 30 minutes, then go another 5 miles,...pull over again.

But like I tell all my friends back east in blizzard country, Arizona isn't really any different than where they live. Just like them, there's about 3 months out of the year you just don't go outside unless you absolutely have to. For us, they're just different months. I can't imagine living in all that white crap, and they can't understand why I live among the scorpions and buzzworms.
