One dia size for 30cal mold

Just curious, if y'all could only buy one diameter bullet mold for .30cal (.309,.311.314 ect)from now on , what size would y'all pick ? Only the mold you can still size them down to whatever

I bought an Accurate .310. After pc'ing, I size them down to .3095. Works good in the 4 rifles I shoot them in.

Agree, 100% here. All my .30 cal rifles; 1903’s, 03A3’s, Garand’s, all love .311 sized boolets. They all shoot better than I can with .311.

I hold with those who hold with .311. I have only one rifle that needs a smaller boolit due to a tight throated chamber. It is unique in my experience.

If you have 7.62x39, Krags, .303s or 7.62 Russian in your armory, you need a . 314" bullet.

If only true .30 cals. A .311-.312" bullet will do.

.312 If I need bigger for Russian 7.62 I use 2 powder coats to bump it up.

For a variety of rifles in .30-30, .308, .30-40, and .30-06, I've used a SAECO .311" die. Actual sized diameter with WW alloy is .3105" and that's been ideal.

Different strokes for different folks. The only 30 caliber rifle I am currently shooting cast in is an older Remington 700 30-06. It won't chamber anything sized over .309". So I ordered an Accurate mold at .310".

If you're talking about ".30 cal" as the nominal .308" groove / .300" bore, then probably .311" sized to .310" with a bore ride section (if applicable) of .300".

But, if you're including the various, British, Japanese, Argentine, Russian, etc..., your question becomes more complex, because the nose section needs to work with the bore, and is not so easily sized. I have copies of the 311299, 314299, and 316299 for this very reason.

To borrow from J.R.R. Tolkein, there is no One Mold to Rule Them All. Better to just rule all the molds . . .Precioussssssss :mrgreen:

I have a lot of milsurps so if I order a 30 caliber mold it's usually .314. I lubrisize all my smokeless bullets so if it's necessary I can just size it down. I rarely shoot anything under .311.

.314. You can squeeze them down a lot easier than you can bump them up.

For me its .311 for most of the USA made 30 calibers, except the 30 carbine. They will get .309 or .310 depending on which one I'm using it in. It's .312 or .314 for the foreign 30 "big 30" milsurps.

You can always size a boolit down, within reason, but you will start reducing the size if the grease groves, if you need them. PCing and paper patching you don’t need to worry. Lots of casters have molds that drop boolits that don’t need to be sized. Also keep in mind that boolit diameter can vary with alloy and temperature. If you are having a double or triple cavity mold being made, you can always specify different cavity sizes in the same mold.

.314, For example lee makes a 90 grain truncated cone TL bullet mold in .314.

Works in the Mosin's, the SKS, sized a thou or 2 above bore works in the Win 94, 7.62x39, .30-30. It covers a wide range. And it shoots well in all of them.

If your sizing down much lube before you size it.

It has a flat nose on it that is big enough that I do not worry about it in the Win 94.

With a light charge of Red Dot it will shoot to the sights at 25 yards instead of 100. Perfect for bunny's and grouse when walking in the deer woods.

And you can tell the difference between it and a deer round by feel.
