Ran across this company in Florida.

Matteson's Machine Shop.

Some great folks making some neat stuff for bullet casters and reloaders.

This is a PLAIN BASE Gas Check Maker. I made the switch to Powder coating a number of years back. So all my molds today are plain Based. Occasionally I feel a GC might be beneficial and wanted to try this unit.

Its works very well a d gives me opertunity to have it "both ways".

Watched the video and this looks like an easy to use product. Thanks for the info!

Watched your video and saw a few things that might be the solution to ragged edges. If you look at my checkmaker design in the sticky you'll see there is a longer throat for the punch to align in the die body before it punches which ensures the disc isn't tilted when it hits the forming pin. Also the forming pin in the die body should be slightly below the slot so the disc is completely punched out before it begins to be formed. As you discovered the clearances between the punch and die are highly dependent on material type and thickness. The Machinerys Handbook has a whole section on designing punch and forming dies. Also you didn't mention it but there probably is a counterbore in the punch that acts as a stripper to pull the finished check off the forming pin. The check will spring open slightly and catch on the counterbore lip which is why its important to fully stroke the press.

Good luck

Does a gas check that crimps onto the base of a cast bullet affect accuracy compared to a gas check crimped onto a bullet that has the groove for one? I made plans to have a gas check groove cutter made for normal gas checks. Has anyone run across such a tool?
