Given a fair amount linotype. Rifle is .375h&h. Request suggestions loading a gas checked 270 grain cast bullet using linotype. Trying for 2300-ish fps range. Hoping to keep recoil down at least a little.

Powders on hand, Red Dot, 2400, IMR3031, IMR4198, H4831, H414 & 5744. Have used fillers with IMR3031 & IMR4198 with good results.

Any suggestions? Thanks for any input.

I have used 60 grains of 3031 with a 270 grn LBT -GC bullet. LBT blue lube. Very accurate at that velocity. No filler was required.

The RCBS 37-250-FN boolit has been very satisfactory in a M 700 REM and post 64 M 70 pushfeed. I was using COWW alloy and weight was close to 270 grains checked and lubed. The H4831 should be a good powder for the velocity you’re looking for and no filler required. I finally went to WC860 with a five grain kicker of 4227 due to the voracious appetite of the slope shouldered beast. Congratulations on the linotype acquisition!

Cut the Lino 50/50 with WW or Pure and you will have a sweet shooting load.

about what hardness at 2,300 fps?

I'd save the lino for smaller bore diameters. A lino bullet at 2300 fps would destroy a deer, leaving little edible meat.

Look at castpics:/articles/ .375 Ouch and Ouch.

I did a lot of work on the .375 H&H years back. My goal was to develop "shooting level " loads for range work. Loads are in this article.

One thing that emerged from this is that the .375 is very accurate with cast at 300 yards with milder loads. We had a berm fire which exposed several white rocks about the size of footballs. In several weekends, we reduced these to gravel. A buddy spotting is really handy.
Why do I not have a .375. Start shoveling powder in and you'll find out. Couple of 8 pounders of milsurp 4895 will come in really handy. Saeco 373 and Lyman 375296 both shot well./beagle

13 BHn is adequate. 50-50 linotype and plumber's lead. 65 grains of 4350.

I use water quenched wheel weights. I probably don't need any extra hardness from the quench, just convenient for pouring with my set up. No problems.

I've also found WQ'd COWW + 2% tin to be an excellent alloy for my three six bits cast bullets. My M70 has a 12" twist so I push my practice loads at 2200+ fps using the Lyman 377449 (270 gr GC'd) over 49 gr of IMR 4895 with a dacron filler.
