Went out to the range after work today to test my new caps with the Prime-All compound. Could not be happier, every one worked and set off the charge. I didn't test for accuracy just shot at cans. I was having so much fun i made a rookie mistake and loaded a ball before the powder. This is a Thopmson Center 54 Hawken. I figured out a quick fix that was fast. I took the nipple out and used my pan charger for my flintlock with 4F powder gave it a couple taps put the nipple back in and shot the ball right out. Took me probably two minutes to clear the gun. When i shot the ball out it wasn't very impressive i saw it come out kind of like kicking a rock. the main thing is that it came out. Back to shooting i went. I feel more independent now that i can make caps and powder that really work.

Im sure lots of you guys have used the pan charger to help get enough powder in there to clear the gun. A lightbulb clicked on in my head for once and it made cense and the little tube on the pan charger fit right in the hole.

I have never dry balled a gun. But I have determined that breech loading the charge via the flash hole or drum is neither fun or efficient.[smilie=1:

I am glad to hear that you are satisfied with the Prime All.
I have never Dry Balled a gun either.
But many times have helped others that did.
I too have a pan charger for my flinters.
And a primer charger for just in case I have an ignition problem.
So , Were you pleased with the way the primers fit your nipples ?
Over this weekend I made another 150 primers with the FH42 compound that I made from Prime All chemicals.

"DRYBALL", Wasn't that a popular mixed drink form the 50's and 60's?[smilie=p:

They fit very well and worked great. Now that i have tested them i need to make more. I didn't make to many incase i was displeased with them. I left out the crushed glass and did the F42 formula I think thats what its called.

Sounds like you are doing things correctly.
As you learn more , you will make more in each batch.
I am going to be showing another forum member how to make caps tomorrow.
I am going to show him the basics for a starting point.
Then when he buys all the stuff he needs to make his own, I will show him options to see if they work for his set up and what he is using them for.
I do not want persons to dive in at the finest tools they can obtain.
Mainly because ,
If they don't need that many primers.
Or they loose interest in making them.
They will have wasted lots of money and time.
But if it is something they like doing.
It is better to learn to walk before they try to run.
And it will pay off in the long run , and actually is economically sound since they have back ups to keep things going till they fine tune their operation.
