This question has been bouncing around in my head for a year or two: Did anyone ever make an octagon barreled bolt action .22? Single shot or repeater, doesn't really matter, I just got curious.

I know there were a bunch of pumps and other styles of single shots made with both round and octagon barrels, but I cannot remember ever seeing a bolt action with octagon barrel. Never seen mention of one on the internet either.

Seems like it would be simple to do, a single shot .22 is a pretty basic machine after all.

I went so far as pricing an octagon barrel from Green Mountain. That put the kibosh on the project really fast, prices have gone up in the last few years.

Browning has made a few Grade V bolt guns in the past with octagon barrels.
A few in the A bolt series, and some other bolt action center fire. I forgot which one.

If you can find one- Yeah the price is higher than giraffe lips.

If you have access to a mill, a cheap GMB "gunsmith" or turned blank can easily be milled octagon. Milled this 375 barrel last week for a Mossberg M72. Little bit of draw filing and abrasive tape and you have a nice looking barrel.

I believe Husqvarna made 22LR bolt action rifles with octagonal barrels.

Didn't know about the Browning's. I bet none of them are being shot regularly, if at all.

I did think about buying a small mill and creating one myself, but I have too many projects in the line right now.

I find it somewhat embarrassing about the Husqvarna's; I have one of their octagon barreled .25-20's, and now I remember seeing the .22 version when I was researching it. Maybe that is where the idea came from.

My thoughts were that a manually cocked single shot is not complicated, especially if you already have a bolt. Maybe one of these decades. It won't be soon. But a tapered octagon .22 would look so neat...

Look at Simpson Ltd. and I'll bet you can find a nice little Husqvarna single shot for sale. I bought a Husky model 55 from them, very petite rifle like an 02 Win but with more class. There is a model 165 ? that is a bit larger in proportion that can have a round or octagon barrel. I think they are a very handsome little rifle, and I need to get one for my Husqvarna collection.
