i have a fn hi-power and a sig 210 that i want to make a "pound cast" of the chamber and throat. i have made many in bolt rifles. but, due to the smaller size of a pistol; i was wondering if the pistol will take the pounding? any or you guys made pistol pound cast, with no issues??

If it was me, I would do a chamber cast instead.

If you remove the barrel and place a case with lead in the chamber and set the breech on a flat piece of delrin or similar material, why couldn't you do a pound cast of the barrel. As long as the case is flush with the barrel hood, then your headspace is correct.

the above response is what i was thinking; once i get a solid base. but, please remind of the shrinking parameters of cerrosafe should i decide to use. it

As soon as the chamber cast is cool enough to handle, I measure and write down all the important points. I don't remember how fast it shrinks.

For a wide open pistol barrel, I would just do a paraffin cast. Push it back out and measure it when cool.

Try to take your measurement 1 hour after removing the cast as soon as it hardens.
