View Full Version : Magneto speed - do they work with pure lead cast boolits?

My Magnetospeed says "Centre fire Cartridges only" on the container.
I've used it for a variety of boolits with either copper or aluminum gas checks and/or high levels of antimony and tin and it seems to work fine.
I'm thinking about casting up some pure lead bullets for both my 30/30 and 357 mag carbines and powder coating them.
Will they trigger the sensors?
I'd prefer it if responses could speak with the authority of experience rather than be speculative in nature. I'm going away for a month and won't be able to cast the stuff until mid-june when I should be able to answer this myself.
Many thanks in advance.

Did you ever try it out to see if it works? I’m curious myself.

Call them and ask.

That should give you instant gratification.

Operates just fine with cast bullets. Have used mine for years with 303, 8mm, 30-06 and even on a 2nd model dragoon cap & ball revolver. Currently using it on working up a load using green dot for a 45 colt. Don't have any experience with using powder coated bullets.

FWI, Caldwell has a similar product called Flash Bang $29.99, works very well.

Two I have seen at our range worked well. At least one of them did. Guy with the other one found out that a radial muzzle brake will do bad things to his magnetospeed. Broke on the second shot.
