I enjoyed watching this video that took place in New Orléans during h early seventies.
I think some other members will like it too.

I liked the plan of picking up the armed vehicle with the helicopter and putting it on the roof. Too bad it was too heavy.

It was in 1977, I was a junior in high school in the New Orleans area!

I worked with a guy whose dad was NOPD when this happened. He was supposedly wounded by the shooter from bullet fragments. Stated that if they couldnt have gotten the helicopter from the marines, they were working on getting one from an oilfield company but they couldn't find a pilot willing to fly it.

It wasn’t only being afraid of being shot. The weather was extremely bad. That’s why the Coast Guard wouldn’t fly. The job called for a special pilot. Luckily they found one.

Yeah impossible I know, but can you imagine if those Marines mounted an M60 or M2 BMG on that phrog. It would have been over on the first sortie. God bless our Marines!!!

The sniper was hiding in the elevator block house on top of a pipe that ran up at the top!
He would come out every once in a while and start shooting.
They were waiting for him and filled him full of holes.
He was using a Ruger 44 Carbine!
Tru TV had a 14 page article on this, I don’t know if it’s still available.

I wondered why they didn’t fire a RPG into the blockhouse. Maybe you can’t shoot one from inside a helicopter.
