Looking for some experience in wuss loads for the little hornet, a 44 gr boolit at about 1200 - 1400 fps from a 1 in 12 twist 10" T/C Contender.

I plan on shooting steel vermin out to 100 yards and accuracy is king, power not needed. All of the load data I've found starts at 2000 fps and up, even the handgun data.

An old Accurate Powders Reloading Guide (1994) lists just the ticket, 2.7 gr N-100 @ 1350 fps. N-100 as far as I can tell isn't made any more and I didn't find it on a burn rate chart to compare with other powders.

Anyone have a good load like this?

I'll suggest Bullseye powder for such a load as that is what I use in my 10" Contender .22H with the 225438. Start at 1.7 gr and work up to 3.5 gr until you get what you want. I loaded to 1050 fps because I wanted it subsonic and to duplicate standard .22LR. It does that and more. However, I do use that bullet at 1400 fps out of my 21" Contender Carbine .22H using 2.5 gr Bullseye. 3.5 gr Bullseye runs 1750 fps out of the Carbine. Cases are WW, primers are Fed 100s, GCs are Hornady's and Lube is Javelina. I NS only with a Redding Bushing die.

Thanks Larry, sounds like just what I was looking for.

That's the same boolit I planned on using, WW is the brass I have, I have the 150's and the Hornady GC but lube will be LBT Blue. Only need to get Bullseye, I have Unique & 231 but not Bullseye.

See what 5 gr. of 2400 will do for you (just under the Lyman starting load).

2.5 gr red dot is my go to squirrel medacine. It's quite, and shoots about like a .22 with a 44 gr round nose. If memory serves (away from home right now), 2.5 gr's pushes the .44 gr lyman at about 1100 fps out of my 14" contender, and just a shade faster out of a rifle.

Might want to try pistol primers...groups cut themselves in half when i switched over for light loads.

Cbrick, I use 3 to 4 gr Unique and a Lyman 225415 49 g cast of linotype in my 10"Contender and 21" contender carbine. Shoots great. the 3 gr load clocks about 1300f/s in the carbine and the 4 gr load goes about 1785f/s. Works well with a 50g jkd slug also. Tree rats are NOT safe!
