After seeing the result of Joe's hardness test I decided to test my tester. I bought from Midway a ingot of bhn 10 alloy and a Lee 4-20 furnace. The furnace wasn't bought for the test I just wanted another furnace. I melted 1/2 the ingot in the new pot around 4#. I poured some 1/4 by 1 1/2 inch slugs to measure on my Gussy's hardness tester. Took 5 measurements on one slug. They were 55-57-58-62-63. Sort of peculiar but the test #'s increased just like I wrote them down. I think I was paying better attention on tightening the screw. That's a average of 59. According to what I have written down 61 is a bhn 10, 55 is a bhn 9 and 66 is bhn 11. My cabine tree tester is close enough to suit me. It's a couple years old. ben1025
