I was watching some videos on all the different types of Locktite today. One of them happened to mention that you are not supposed to use it after one year from opening it. Is that true? I have a large bottle of it I’ve been using for several years now. It still works because I had a hard time unscrewing something I put together a couple of months ago. I can understand that maybe it would get hard and not flow, but as long as it keeps coming out of the bottle, I’m going to continue to keep using it. Any reason not to?
Thanks

Not that I. Can remember.
You only get a half a bottle because it need air to stay liquid.
It only hardens in an anaerobic environment.
Keep it in the fridge with you other glues and silicone sealants if you like.

As long as it stays liquid, I’ll keep using. I have some lock tite #515 gasket eliminator for oring, at least 10 years old and still works like intended. Depends on container, caulk tube of same chemical if squeezed will solidify in a few days. My policy now with anything like sealant of any type, by in small amounts.

Expiration dates mean you sell more product.
They even put them on salt these days.

I heard in the past that Locktite put the expiration date on the bottles for General Motors or some other big companies that required the date.
I have a good size bottle that I found floating in a mud puddle in the junk yard over 20 years ago. It still works as it should to the best of my knowledge.

I have one tube that must be 30 years old, and it still works fine.

Shake or mix it well and it should be fine. At work when we opened a bottle we would pull the spout and drop 3 or 4 small nuts in to act as agitators when shaking it up.

Our Tool Room got in 20 of the large bottles of the red locktite one time instead of two.

I snagged one of them in 1979. I used a couple drops of it a weeks weeks ago, and it seems fine.

Greetings,

I had a conversation with an applications Engineer at Henkel/LocTite. Unofficially, he said you could ignore the expiration date.

Cheers,

Dave

Most expiration dates should actually read "We want you to buy more today"

Although I have Locktite around here, I generally use nail polish I get from the Dollar Store, for, well, a dollar!

An expiration date ... on Salt ! That's insane ... the salt you eat can be thousands of years old ... mined from deep underground . I've been down in the Jefferson Island salt mine and seen the salt deposits ... Salt doesn't expire .

Expiration date on a box of salt .... Reminds me of a Lee Roy Parnell song ...
... "What kind of fool do you think I am ..."

I thought the same thing when I bought a block of salt for our goats ten years ago. I thought it was just Europe.

And I thought you old farts were kidding.
Old style cylinder from Aldi and a bag of sea salt my wife picked up somewhere. At least the bag doesn't say expiration, just has a date 10 years out from packaging. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230418/abe6318f387e072be332f069f81afb47.jpg
