How short can a person cut down 454 Casull brass and still fit a 250grain bullet into the case? My reason is I would like to have a hand full of brass I can use the stock pile of small pistol primers on, in 45 colt snd 45 special.

I suspect 45 colt case length is doable just due to 454 using 300 grain jacketed bullets

But I was unsure of 45 ACP length

Take the bullet you wish to use and seat it deeper and deeper into the case until the sides of the case bulge. Measure at each step... That will be as deep as you can go.

Be very careful to reduce the powder charge as you reduce the OAL. The further the bullet gets into the case, the pressures rises - Fast.

If I were to cut them down I would use data for 45 colt or 45 acp, the only real reason I want them is the large quantity of small pistol primers I have.

But small pistol primer 45 acp brass is everywhere. It's cheap, sometimes half price LPP.

I don’t have any 45 ACP guns, I do have 45 colt chambered firearms and one that uses 45 special brass.

Then why are you concerned about cutting a 454 Casull to 45 ACP length?

One of the firearms I have was in 455 webley how ever it was changed to accept the 45 colt Tim the chambers were left at the 455 webley MkI depth, more or less I assume to use less powder for the same given bullet speed and perhaps it was more accurate that way, as the revolver shoots pretty tight groups.

I do want to use the 45 special length brass for lighter loads in the other guns as one dose not need to worry about fillers or the bulky ness of the powder as one might in 45 colt
