I fired a CCI 44 special #9 shotshell in a Charter Bulldog at a copperhead. It worked well but I experienced very sticky extraction to the point where a bit of tapping with a dowel/hammer in the cylinder was needed.
Is this common with this cartridge in this revolver?

509OSS,

Sticky extraction is a sign that needs to be explored. The load may be too "hot", the gun chambers may be too large or other factors. I suggest you contact Charter Arms and discuss your gun's issues with factory ammo.

I doubt it, I've never heard of any combination like that being anymore "sticky" than anything else. Done rightly, handgun shot loads are too mild to stick.

Over heating annealed cases will make them dead soft. That can allow them to easily expand and tightly fit the chamber when fired and then not spring back for easy extraction.

I've run some CCI .40 snake loads through a Glock with no problems. They cycled well and were effective.

Does the revolver give hard extraction with factory .44 Special?

Never fired any CCI .44 shotshells, but I have used the .38 Special ones from a GP-100. I don't remember any difficulty extracting them, but I was not impressed with the job they did on Mr. No Shoulders.

The CCI .22 shotloads with #12 shot do a lot better in my opinion, and that is the size I load in my home rolled centerfire shotloads.

I've shot the CCI 45 ACP, they work the action in Colt Officers Model. I've fired quite a few (15-20+) CCI 44 Special shot in Charter BullDog without problem, CCI 45 Colt shot in 2" Taurus 460 (NOT Judge), another 10+ CCI 38 Special shot in S&W 638 and Taurus copy of 638. No sticking with any of them. Check for chamber roughness, Charter customer service has been decent recently.

I have tried it with HSM Cowboy Action loads which extracted smoothly, though they felt pretty light. No handloads yet.
