I’ve used Longshot in .45ACP with 230 grain bullets. You can’t load that powder light. There’s not much 1911 data out there for 255 grain projectiles. Speer or Hodgdon might have the data you’re looking for.

I have used Blue Dot with that boolit in the 45 ACP. I believe I used an 18# recoil spring. Worked good.

Thank you guys….
Im still loading everything with what I haz on hand, which is HP38 / w231, just happened to acquire a lb of Longshot, that I wanted to try in 9/ .40 and .45

Im always concerned of compressing the HP38 in .45 with that specific boolit, because of the amount of case, it takes up. So I just figured the Longshot might do better, with an almost filled case.
Thanks guys.

6 gr PP with a 255gr swcbb machine cast bullet seated to the crimp groove is considered safe in a 1917 Colt or S&W. I have used a 262gr 454424 seated with just a whisper of the front band showing in GI .45acp cases over 5gr of Unique in a 1911. It is slightly faster than PP or Longshot which are often used with equal charges in .44spl '8gr of either one'. If I was serious, I would probably start with 5gr of Longshot in your application then work my way up. I have loaded the 6gr PP under 255gr swcbb load at 1.213" and fired it in 1917s. It does not seem overly hot to me. not too loud or much recoil. The air space in the case is the thing.....

These thoughts and my experiences are free and are worth just what they cost....

Larry Gibson loaded some of these 255gr swcbb machine cast bullets for me in .45acp and ran a pressure test to an OAL of 1.213 with 5gr Herco and got 13.500psi and 839fps from an 8" Contender barrel.

OAL 1.173 16,600psi and 876fps 8" Contender

OAL 1.1336 19,100psi and 903fps 8" Contender

OAL 1.213 with 6.5gr Herco 22,400 and 1031fps 8" contender.

Herco should be pretty close to Longshot and PP in burn rate.

This is all JMHO-YMMV............
