Handguns, I've only loaded .44 Mag. It's been a long time. I can't recall what I used, but it was a carbide set.

Reloading son's H & K 45 acp. On Amazon they list an RCBS carbide set for 45 ACP but then they ask for size, and list "colt" and "one size." I suspect that's a wrong listing - suspect it's just the 45 colt and not 45 ACP.

What die set do you use?

Yes, 45 Colt and 45 ACP are two very different cartridges. You want the 45 ACP (also called 45 Auto), die set.

I use a RCBS carbide set made expressly for the 45 ACP. It's listed that way on the container label that came glued to the plastic box.

I also have a .45 LC set and it's labeled accordingly. The two are not interchangeable.

Thanks. Yep, I know they're different. In fact rather than a .44 magnum (had the Super Blackhawk), I'm probably going to get a 45 LC SA "cowboy" at some point, as I just like them. I'm saying it looks like Amazon lists them wrongly (https://www.amazon.com/RCBS-45-ACP-Carbide-Die/dp/B071V5GQWD. Title says 45 ACP but then they ask you to "choose a size," one being 45 colt and one being "one size."), so didn't want to risk it and having to send it back. So I was wondering basically what make you guys like to use for the 45 ACP. HWoolridge, thanks. I use RCBS for everything, except a couple of seater dies by Hornady.

Edit: Just went to RCBS directly. Thanks again.

I use the Lee ones since it includes the factory crimp die for the same money.

But, they all work in my opinion. You can spend more if you want (redding, Hornady)

Thanks, that was a question I had. Again I can't recall, but I think it was a Lee carbide set with the .44 Mag. I couldn't recall whether I crimped or not. So - LFCD, over the taper crimp of the RCBS set?

Where I crimp, I also use the LFCD. Really like it.

Thanks. Nice looking bullets. I'll probably cast the .45 as well, if he doesn't go with something jacketed.

Amazon lists reloading items all over the place in my experience, and are usually higher than "usual" reloading supply sites. I've gotten a few things that were completely wrong from Amazon. They do a great job with returns, but honestly easier to order from midway to begin with. Seems midway has stuck with the free shipping over 49$ of lee products for a long time now. Also worth checking the clearance section on midway when you're looking for something. Picked up 3 sets of rcbs dies for under 25$ a set a few weeks ago. No idea why they were clearenced but they work great.

I always try to drill down to the actual mfg part number of the die that I want, and search based on that part number. Ebay sometimes can be cheaper than the zon total shipped price. I got one die from the zon that was the incorrect die in the correct box, sent that one back.

If you scroll down into the "one size" item on the rcbs amazon store we can see that are showing 18915 which is the correct one IMHO.

If we select "45 colt" the part number changes to 19112

I have been using Hornady .45 ACP dies with my 550 for about 3 years and like them better than other dies I have used over the years.

If you're loading plain lead, PC or plated bullets, get a separate taper crimp die so that you seat & crimp in separate steps.
