I recently bought a Rolling Block rifle that has the sight protector ears that look like a roller coaster. I have been unable to raise the ladder sight and am now ready to shoot it, but I don't think I will have enough elevation to get on target with my cast starter loads. Help would be appreciated Bob.

Cast, or lower velocity loads, will usually shoot higher than jacketed loads. This is because the firearm usually has a slightly longer time to recoil before the bullet leaves the barrel. In any event, take some photos of the sight and post requests on how to fix it in the gunsmithing section of the forum.

I have been putting a little oil on the hinge and today I used a section of flat shoe string, slipped under the front (top) of the ladder and up she came. Hadn't been up for years. I have the shells (modified to adjust the head space) loaded and just need some good weather when I can get to the range and we shall see what she can do. Thanks for the advice.
