I have had this rifle since last fall .38 55 made in 1896. 26 inch barrel. Beaches front sight and an original tang mounted peep. The original rear barrel sight was removed at some time. The bore is like new.. This is the first 10 shots out of the barrel, 250grain bullet and 48grains of KIK. TWO GROUPS HERE, THE UPPER RIGHT were the first five, then I made a slight adjustment to the peep and shot the lower five. All off hand at 50 yards. After this target I shot another20 round massacreing silly wets at 50 yards. Even hit one on edge!

Sounds like an exceedingly nice rifle.

Post pics when you get a chance.

This one here dates from 1900, chambered in 38/55 as well.

Pre-99 rifles or carbines are a great way to spend a lifetime of hunting, walking about and shooting. Caliber 38's are very special under our roof.
Photos... Only way I figured out inserting one was to load it on the 'puter' first.

Unfortunately, the photos are on my stupid phone, and I don't know how to transfer to the 'puter. I'll have to look for the old camera, I guess.

We don't see too many old Marlins in Australia but do get the odd nice old '92 Winchesters. I love any shooting session with my 4 x 100+ year old levers, 1896 (44/40), 1906 (25/20), 1908 (32/20) and 1918 (38/40)
and these 38/40 carbines made in 1892.

I have one called just the model 93. 1921 vintage, just before a bankruptcy. 32 special. I turned AA with this one shooting cast in lever gun silhouette

I'm fiddling with a new to me Marlin M1895 made in 1903 today. It's a 40 82. Got my brass all formed and shortened to 2.4. The lever won't close on an empty case.... I'm going to try shortening a case a little and see what happens. Just like my other Marlin in 40 65 the bore mics at .410. It seems I may end up learning how to neck ream. Always something ...
