My father in law (rip) worked for Dahlgren on the big 16" guns. He was the smallest member of his crew so he got to crawl into the bore with a light and magnifier to measure throat erosion during testing. I used to kid him about being a human bore scope. Getting a worker to do something like that today would probably be illegal.

At least on an 8" cannon shell with which I am familiar, the steel shell is wrapped with a copper bourrelet, that actually engages the rifling. No leading of the bore, but lots of copper fouling.

The 8" was a good gun to "shoot" as a FO. Very accurate, the most accurate gun in our artillery arsenal during Vietnam.

A little JB Borepaste, Kroil and some copper would get that done

M110A2 howitzer was still in use during desert storm firing the same 8" 200lb projo as used in the Korean War but with huge increase in propellant IMSM charge 9 was 84 pounds and the muzzle brake did what muzzle brakes do share the noise and blast!

Looks like you could just climb in there with a belt sander and make a quick job of it. :)

When those 8" HE with time delay came, in they made nice deep holes. Always happy never had one of those land short.
