LOL I was considering making a wildcat :bigsmyl2:
But Winchester is doing it for me

As the 400 Legend has the same head size as the 7.62 x 39
The 400 Legend case is 1.65" and OAL of the loaded round is 2.125
I saw 40,000 as the pressure

So a touch shorter than a 223 round
A new AR15 deer round for states like Ohio that mandate straight walled rifle rounds

LOL Also bet there will be a few new .40 cal molds designed for this round

Yep, it's basically a copy of the 40GPC over at MDWS or the 400AR. On the plus side perhaps there'll be more .400" bullets meant for 2200+ on the market if they're ever available.

I think it is the same rim as the 30 Remington, 6.8 SPC, 10mm. Now, if they would just neck it back down to 308 and pressure rate it at 55,000…

Go Ahead... SAAMI has Zero to do with Wildcats... Just use appropriate gun/action. These days, If I wanted to create a Wildcat, I would use a Strong Single shot for development...Encore??

Doesn't the 350 Legend fill that bill? as a straightwall case for deer hunting?? or is it's just trying to rename something to open another market?

The best way to sell more guns is to make one in a "new" caliber.

Or simply change the name ...
7mm Express Remington sounded so much better than 7mm-06 Remington ... which sounded so much better than 280 Remington ... If you didn't know any better you would think these are three different rifle calibers ...they aren't ...
by the time Remington got through playing the "Name Game" the 6.5 mm snuck up and ambushed the 7mm ...and beat him to death !

The brass should be able to be made from 6.5 grendel (base dia is .001" under but within the -.008" spec) but you'd have to rebate the rim or use a 6.5 grendel bolt instead of the 6.8spc bolt. Odd that the 6.5 grendel and 6.8spc max chamber pressure is 52K and they limited the 400 to 45K. Makes you think the rebated rim wasn't a good choice.

Comparing the drawings of the 6.8SPC, 30 Rem, and 10mm to the 400Legend makes it look as though these cartridges are related—-the 7.62x39 is a wider case at its base.

Plus the x39 is too short a case by about a tenth of an inch

Perfect Marketing Strategy...do we believe 300 BO is about New Ballistics??? At least most admit it is Just a 300 Whisper...which is a miniaturized 7.62 x 39....Oh...and the 30 Herrett smokes them All

My 350 Legend does all I need in a short range deer and hog gun. No 400 for me.

I don’t need another oddball cartridge to have to chase hard to find components!
