Is Colt still making/shipping the SAA 3d generation? Every place I check is NIS.

Thanks

I don't know about Colt, and not to steer the thread, but have you checked out the Standard mfg SAA? Remarkable craftsmanship and a fair price.

Yes to the current production of Colts SAA's and they are very nice based on the couple I have handled.

May not find one in the LGS, but you just might if you call around, meanwhile over at GB there are a few, very pricey but they were almost 2k when they were new so, let's just say they are attainable. If you think they are high now, wait until some unfortunate incident affects availability or production....

This is a rather drool-worthy page, so enjoy.. Go to Gunbroker and type in Standard Manufacturing SAA in the search box you will find quite the assortment of sixguns..

Go to coltforum.com and search to answer your question. The SAA is still cataloged ($1799 retail) but production is currently at a minimum. A date of April of this year has been discussed as a possible date that production may be addressed. Nothing in stone. Vintage/ used colt SAAs of all generations, New Frontiers and bisleys are selling at possible new highs as demand outstrips supply. It doesn’t help the situation that the NRA ran an article of this being the 150 year of the SAA. Of course the calendar date is a given and ultimately it’s Colt that won’t or can’t produce for the current demand. 40-60 years ago, colt had a commemorative for just about anything or anybody. Now days it appears almost everyone would be happy just finding a standard production gun in a common caliber.

Re: the price of 'peacemakers'

My Grandfather used to say " in my day, you could buy a Colt peacemaker with a $20 gold piece
and you still can."

I WISH I owned one! I think I honed throats in one cylinder a good while back before I knew the significance of what I had in my hands.

Out of curiosity, does it have to have a pony on the side? For a functional SAA sixgun there are tons of good choices out there. The Uberti's at my local fun store are very nice indeed.

Well, though I had a deal but it fell through - if anyone is getting out of the cowboy game give me a yell.

A good friend of mine has a Colt SA in 44spl that he bought new in 1980. It is NIB, never fired. It has a 4-5/8 inch barrel. If you are interested, I will pass the word along.

if not well versed on Colt single actions and before buying any 3rd gen Colt, ask the guys on the colt collectors site first; they will steer you straight on each year and likely save you some grief later. New Colts and old Colts are bringing very high prices now. New guns are not offered for MSRP, think hundreds more. The 1980's were not good for Colt either and why the Net has them for sale often both NITB and Used both. For an unknowing buyer consider the models built 2000 and up, and even then learn about each year of production and what the experts say about them. learn and be patient, be happy the first time.

I have a 4-3/4" 44 special from 1980 and it shoots like a dream; never had any trouble with it. The LGS had two NIB for sale at that time for $396 each - shoulda bought both of them.
