Just have to share what I found. My Dad passed recently and I’m going through his things. I knew he had an “old 30-30” that was his deer rifle from the 60’s. He hadnt used it in years, he prefered bow and his .270. Well look at this beauty. I dont think he knew what a nice marlin he had. Just have to share a little and I think this beauty need to get more venison in his Honor. It was his first deer rifle. I think my daughter, his granddaughter should take her first deer with it.310194

Nice rifle. I think your daughter hunting with it is an excellent idea!
Good Luck to her!

That is a very nice rifle. Nice older Marlins are getting hard to come by around here. I have never seen one with that stock in person. Truly a nice peice to keep in the family.

Very nice! To their credit, Remlin was trying to bring back the Texan before they croaked

Very nice find, and yes that is a nice looking Marlin.
Would be really cool for the next generations to start out with it.
Nice family heirloom. Congrats.

I just had to look for that model in Brophy's book Marlin Firearms. It shows it was manufactured as a 336TDL in 1962 and 63, but does not give a production number, but I would guess only a couple thousand in the deluxe version. I have one of the early round lever Texans, but unfortunately someone left it in a wet gun case, and it is badly pitted, also has a broken and poorly repaired wrist. Now just a truck gun.

That is a fine old Marlin !! That is the best "Longhorn" I have seen.
If you have a Ranch Dog mold start there for a great corn cruncher thumper.

She is a beauty. Sorry for your loss but having your daughter get her deer with it would be very special.

I have a very worn but good shooting 1976 Texan, took the biggest deer of my life with it in 2021. Love that gun, the ne plus ultra of the .30-30 lever action. Yes, I think it's better than the 94 which I also like!

That’s a very nice Marlin. I love the straight grip 336- I had a pre Microgroove 30-30 plain grade Texan but wasn’t smart enough to keep it!
I love how your father hunted with it and didn’t relegate it to the safe. The little “hunting scratches” tell stories.
May your daughter put some of her own marks on it!

Provide the first 3 digits of the SN and I should be able to tell you what year it was manufactured.

And....that rifle is gorgeous.

Condolences for your loss. Keep the tradition going with that beautiful rifle. Should be a conversation starter for years for your daughter, you, other family members, and her friends. Good on you.
