Any ideas on how many turns from fully closed to get function with Garand level loads? I purchased one several years ago and fully closed it so my garand operated like a straight pull. I am going to actually tune it to my loads and work like a starting point.

What is usually suggested for the Schuster is the best method. Take your Garand and the load you have developed for it to the range. Close the gas plug all the way off and fire one shot. Then open the plug a little and fire another shot. Keep this routine up until the ejection is just reliable and not throwing the brass into the next county. Once you get reliable ejection, tighten the gas plug down and you have what you are looking for; reliable ejection without the stress on the rifle or the brass. My experience anyway, james

7br,

Your question is specific to your rifle. I think range time at the bench is needed. Just like with my M49 FNs; close the gas system, fire a shot, open some more and repeat as needed.
