I had a buddy call me asking if I knew of a home made liquid solution that can be mixed to use in the old Outers Foul Out electronic cleaning system. Specifically, the lead out solution.
I know I've seen it "somewhere" but can't recall.
Anybody know what to mix to make the solution?

I use plain old hardware store ammonia and distilled water, hooked up to DC electroplate the rod. I made my own 25 cent foul out. The Ammonia does the job in a couple minutes, usually, unless you have some real crud. Might need to clean the electrolisis rod off and repeat.I get "shot out" barrel in frequently.
I also use the Shooters Choice Copper Solvent in a 7 day soak
Use a chamber plug then fill the bore, after you remove the wood.

Here you go, please skip anything with ammonia and/or vinegar in it. From this thread:

Thanks all.
Now the fun question.
Where can I get Ammonium Acetate and Lead Acetate or Lead Acetate Trihydrate?
What the heck are the "common" terms for such stuff, & where are the places I can buy such stuff?
Ace Hardware maybe?

I use boreteck eliminator, will not hurt the barrel and will soak out all lead and copper or brass. I gave up on the electrolysis, either just wet patch and let soak for 5 minutes, use a plastic jag, or plug the barrel and let soak over night, remove from wood first.

Chemical/science supply companies. Here are two a quick search brought up:

Tell him to try 100% copper Chore-Boy on an old bore brush with a patch under the Chore-Boy. Wrap a couple of strands around the patch. He may have to replace the Chore-Boy after one or two swipes.

Thanks 45_Colt. I'll pass this along.
I told him already about 100% copper Chore Boy,, as well as the "Lewis Lead Remover." But he has the Outers & wants to keep using it.

I have a Foul out but haven't used it in years. I think the foaming bore cleaners are way better. Foaming cleaners don't attack bluing like electrolysis can if have impurities.
