I have a Single shot of 1874 Shiloh Sharps and am in need of a Leather cheek rest. I was told David Barns made them however I do not have any contact information. Any other suggestions?

That’s the one I use both in Creedmoor and Silhouettes.

I like the Accu-Riser one a lot too. Once you get it laced up it's very solid.

Chris,

In addition to raising the cheek weld point, does the Accu-riser mitigate the transmission of the concussive effect of the shot fired..?

Thanks

RJ

I couldn't tell you RJ. When shooting I just barely touch my cheek to the stock so I use a very light "weld". Also I'm a lefty so the recoil torque of the butt stock is different for me than most people who are right handed.

Do you guys know if the Accu-riser will fit on a 1885 High Wall replica (Uberti) ?

Thanks, Kenny. Unfortunately it turned out Accu-Riser don't ship outside North America & Canada.

Looks like I'll have to pester an old friend of mine, living in Utah, to bring one over, next time he visit the old country - Or maybe just steal the design and make my own...

I just found this nice, Italian made, cheek rest.

It fits well and I think it looks great:

It's still more of a chin- than a cheek rest, but it'll have to do.

Who made that buttplate?

Thunder, I milled it from an aluminum billet. The original curved buttplate was murder on the shoulder with stiff loads.

I might talk to you about one of those. There are some good deals on some nice rifles, but they insist on putting those crescent butts on them.

Thundermaker,
I agree, crescent butts on anything bigger than a 32-40 is not for me.

For my butt kicking 45-70 (Uberti) I bought (can't remember where from) a Hi Wall stock blank. Put a rubber, recoil-absorbing, pad
and sanded & oil finished the wood myself. While a little work it was a satisfying process that adds to the rifle. I refinished the front stock to match as I don't care for the hi gloss finish that Uberti provides.
FWITW, the straight (not set) trigger is surprisingly light w / no creep.

Cap'n Morgan, if you ever decide to offer those butt plates for sale, I would be interested.

Too much hassle, I'm afraid. I do have a 3-D model on a computer somewhere if anybody would try to print a butt plate.

It should be quite doable to cast an aluminum part from a 3-D printed part like this guy does, but it would still be a hassle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AaujAPghhE&ab_channel=BrianOltrogge
