DRO Scale

I bought a lathe with a three axis DRO on it. The third axis is on the compound. The scale is too long and makes it difficult to turn the wheel for the compound. I thought about removing it, but since I have it why not use it.

My question is, is it possible to cut down the scale? It’s an optical scale.

There are magnetic scales that can be cut down to fit but the glass optic scales I dont think so.
How does the travel compare to the tail stock spindle? maybe move it to the tail stock instead of the compound. It would probably get more use there.

You should be able to find a scale of the appropriate length pretty easily with a little internet searching.

My compound is pretty short and the scale at this time is more of a hindrance, than helping with anything. I’m probably just going to remove it and put it in a box, until I really need it for something, if that day ever comes.
