Hello All!
I have found myself the proud new owner of a Browning model '71 carbine. I'm a recoil sissy so wanting to keep recoil low. I have some samples of a 187 grain bullet on order from Bullshop. I will add a mold of my own soon. What is your favorite 348 mold/bullet? I do lean toward a mold from Tom @ Accurate but that won't necessarily be where I'll go.
Thanks for any help and input,
Rick

Howdy Rick! My never owning/shooting a .348 rifle I cannot give a personal recommendation. However, my best buddy for years acquired a Browning, no doubt similar to yours, in this calibre. Totally "computer-no"! when Hughie wanted/needed something I was his go-to guy. For him I ordered a Lyman 350-447 .348 Win. 200 gr. 1-cavity mould (FNGC) and a #447 top punch (plus a brand new bag of brass and a few other goodies) -- and, "the way things go" -- he was over for Friday eve dinner; had a real problem of which my wife (a RN) suggested he go to hospital...long story short, he died on Saturday -- eight days later. (I still have all... I may just put it on S&S one day ;) ).
Anyhoos -- this bullet -- the Lyman 350-447 -- was, according to Hughie, the "only" and "best" .348 Winchester cast bullet.

I'm just starting to load for the 348. My first loads were with the 350447 using 3031 powder. So far, the results have been poor. I have the mold from Accurate but haven't tried it yet.
I'll be watching this thread to see what others are using. There is another 348 thread running recently too.

Try 13 grains of Unique. Any cast you desire.
Consider buying a 35 Remington if you are all that "sensitive".

RCBS also makes a mold for the 348.

The best mold that I have found is the Accurate 35-220B, it groups much better than the 187 grain Lyman in my 1951 Winchester. I also have the RCBS 348-200 which is not quite as accurate as the 35-220 (but still better than the Lyman bullet:wink:.) Bear in mind that you don't have to put 55 grains of powder in there. 40 grains of WW 748 is a moderate load with the 35-220B and not nearly as punishing as some of the factory equivalent loads. IMR 3031 has also been suggested, though I have no personal experience with it.

However, for funsies shooting, I use the Lyman 358-429 sized .350 over 13 grains of Red Dot. It is quite accurate, but shoots very low. You need to crank up the site to keep it on paper. The recoil is very modest.
