Lyman 358156 & 35891 Chrono Results [Archive]

I did some chronographing several months ago with a number of my revolvers & two of my favorite cast bullets: Lyman's, 358156GC LSWC & 35891 WC. Both were cast from 2:1 ratio, ACWW to Pb, sized to 0.358" with annealed Hornady GC's and lubed with 50-50 Alox-Beeswax. I thought the results might be of general interest to guys who don't have access to a Chronograph.

Load: .357 Starline Brass, 6.0 gr Unique, Lyman 358156, @ 0.358” NO Gas Check, Starline WSP

S&W M-60-15, 3”bbl.; 1020 fps / ES 25 No GC, with GC, 1060 fps / ES 21

S&W M-66-2, 4” bbl.; 1034 fps / ES 12, No GC

S&W M-27-2, 5” bbl.; 1077 fps / ES 12, No GC

S&W M-19-3, 6” bbl.; 1138 fps / ES 23, No GC

Ruger BH, Flat Top, 4-5/8” bbl.; 1090 fps / ES 33, No GC

Thanks for posting your results. I use the same load (6.0 gr. of Unique)under a 158 gr. SWC from an H&G #51 and average 1020 fps from my 4 3/4" Uberti's and 1200 fps from my 20" Rossi. It's my around-the-place-utility load.
