What is the shell holder number for the 7.5x55. Looks ike I could use a #5 but is isn't a real tight fit.

I use the same shell holder that I use for 30-06. I don't know the number :)

Thanks I tried mine and it works, sort of. I am off to get a #2 RCBS shellholder.

Lee is shell holder #3.
Herters is # 2.
RCBS is # 2.
Hornady # 30 or # 2.

If you're using actual 7.5x55 swiss brass, it's not the same as .30-06. The rim diameter on the 7.5x55 is larger. The rim diameter on the .30-06 family is .478" and the rim diameter on the 7.5x55 is .496". I'd be curious to know the headstamp of the brass in question.

You can use .284Winchester brass to form 7.5x55 brass, the only difference is the rim diameter. Hope this helps.

7.5X55? Is that the 7.5mm x 55 Schmidt-Rubin? If so it's RCBS shellholder #2.

Here's a list of RCBS shellholders:

The brass is 7.55x55mm. the headstamp is tough to read stamped with three letters ending in Y. I have a set of Lee dies coming from a friend which should have the proper shell holder. Until it arrives the shellholder I have works...just.

∏∏Y, or PPY brass. Should be Prvi.

It is new brass, just poorly stamped. The first two letters could by anything, likely PPY.

Nothing wrong with PRVI brass. I only have a few in 7.5X55 that I got from an ammo junk bin but I have a lot in other calibers. But you do have to use the proper shellholder. You also use the same one for 6.5X55, 7.5X54, 7.65 Argentine, etc.
