I ordered a box of these from the Bullshop to try in my 7mm Remington rolling block carbine. This is a 160gr bore riding sillouette bullet. I was surprised to see what looks like 2 lube grooves near the nose. Since this is the bore riding part, I'm not sure of their purpose. I searched online. But all the photos I see do not have these extra grooves. I loaded up 20 of them and put lube in the nose grooves. But not sure what good it will do. Anyone else seen a bullet like this?

When they first came out with the 224-646, 280-642, 311-644 and your 287-641, they had those lube grooves on the bore riding portion of the boolit. The intended purpose was that you would dip the nose in LLA and lube the boolit "head to toe."
Sometime in the 90's or early 2000's, the nose lube grooves disappeared from the "640" series boolit molds, but my older 311-644 looks just like yours. I haven't cast with mine in at least 12 years, but they were quite accurate in my sporterized 1903 Springfield.

I have the 311644 version, and find it an accurate bullet in 06 and 30-40. Not sure if the grooves help with accuracy, but they don't drop from the mould very well, and I don't find myself casting them very often. I believe the newer version is without the grooves, and I would like to have one and compare them for accuracy.

Mine are lubed in a Lyman 45 sizer, and then tumble lubed lightly with Bens Liquid Lube recipe. I really don't think the extra grooves are necessary.
