i have a overhead light and fan over my stove . the glass lens in one of the lights is broken.(2.250) diameter. bought a piece of polycarbonate (.032) thick. cut and ground it to size. it melted pretty quick. the bulbs are very small and get very hot. what type of material will not melt??

Mica was what we used as a sight window on boiler doors that went to about 140-160’. Wouldn’t know where to find any now though.

Don't mean to be obvious, but why not glass?

Tempered glass might work if you could find the right size. Or regular glass depends on shape. That ain’t going to melt.

Glass should be the best choice, at least price wise.

Or get (LED) replacement they don't get very hot.

Borosilicate glass. It is what Pyrex uses in their better stuff, as well as their old stuff. Lab supply house or eBay might have the right size.

Not cheap, but McMaster-Carr has what you need:

A good glass shop should be able to do that.

Hve you tried a local glass shop? The may have some bits and pieces about and could possibly cut/grind to fit for you.

Just to ask does the OEM still sell replacement parts?

High temp glass. Circle cutter and grind. Change to LEDs.

Sounds like about the size they grind eye glass lenses from.

Don't know if Lexan and polycarbonate are the same but Lexan is what NASA uses for astronaut 's helmets. Might be what you need may not be cheap but Lexan is very heat resistant.

Or get (LED) replacement they don't get very hot.

This is the solution I went to.
In the summer when it can get up to 35C some days, the halogen lights add to the burden of the A/C.
Led lights run cooler and use less electricity.

Do you even need the glass at all? I have taken mine out to make it brighter anyway.
