there is a local online auction that has a xantrex 400 power pack going up for bid. insstead of draging a power cord 75 feet to start my snowblower for the first time every year; will a power pack work for that purpose??

I would think any of the portable battery jumper power packs would start a snowblower. I have a $50 unit that will jumpstart about any auto / pickup truck. A snowblower with a 16 hp engine should be a piece of cake.

I just looked up the xantrex converter. It is not a power pack. It is a converter that converts 12 volt dc to 110 volt ac and requires a 12 volt battery hooked to it. I'm not sure if 400 watts is enough for a 110v starter or not.

Your snowblower runs on 110 vac? Or gasoline?

I forgot about the snowblowers with 110 vac starters. Actually inherited a Toro that had one in the mid 80’s.
I’ve seen multi-purpose jump starters with 110 outlet but just checked and mine isn’t one of them. I imagine one that had enough output to do the job would be heavier than a 75 foot extension cord. Even without one my is.
