I have a Uberti Callahan that is shooting low at 25 yards and want to try some heavier bullets to increase the dwell time before filing the front sight down. Has anyone have any experience with this practice? Thanks in advance.

Yes... the 300 gr Lee Boolit works well for me...I have the opposite problem with a 4-5/8 SBH...shoots High... faster lighter boolit, loads bring it down!!!
Consult your Manual...but Look at Blue Dot...Worked for me with the 300 Grainer in Hurt yer Hand loads!!!! Betting you will get away with more mundane loadings, to bring POI up.

Thanks racepres! Looking forward to experimenting, I really like this revolver and don't want to abuse it too much:smile:

Also 2400 and LilGun are both great for targeting the 75% - 90% range on the performance scale, as it is not recommended to download H110/W296 below starting charge weights.

If this is any consolation to you, my 7 1/2" SBH was shooting high with the 300gr Lee over 17.0gr 2400, clocking right at 1180-1200 fps, I had to drop the rear sight fully down, and file down the sight blade flush with the body of the sight and file a new notch in the center. It's regulated to this one load at 30-40 yards, I call it treestand distance, but it groups well and is very consistent.

The crimp on this boolit is critical. If you consider how deep in the case the base of the C430-310-RF is seated, and you consider the energy of the primer, it's really easy for this boolit to pull crimp and start moving just on the primer flash, nanoseconds before the flame front gains the pressure curve.

I came up with a modified Lee collet style FCD that I would totally attribute to the very low ES that this load produces. This crimp is what brought the numbers down.

Modified collet crimp on left, hard roll crimp on right:

A 310 Lee prints about 5''-6'' higher with my SRH at 25 yards over a 240 grain with a 1 in 20'' twist using 2400 powder. We have to size them to .429 with the Freedom Arms to slide into the throats. The Lee book has info for the 310 grain boolit with two different crimp grooves. I would suggest starting out on the low side. The 310 kicks a lot harder than the 240 grain.
