Wrking with assorted cast and not doing well. A 1988 gun, 4" bbl. My newer 6" classic has the right throats and works well with anything.

Tried today with 4 BE, 7.5-231. 11 Herco is an Ooof-Da load.

What do you suggest? I would like a light target load. Thanks

My 29-1 with .433 throats shoots X-ring at 25 yards with Saeco #441 260- grain Keith type, as-cast and unsized at .432" from wheelweights, lubed with 45-45-10 and 6.6 grains of Bullseye.

I would go with a 0.432" bullet, a bit softer than most commercial cast. Run it around 1200fps with a medium burn rate powder, see if that helps.

Exactly what "assorted cast bullets" are "not doing well"?

What "accuracy" is usual for you with that handgun?

The powders and loads should be fine. Tell us what molds you're using and the diameter you are sizing to.

As far as the gun, how did you measure the throats? Are they all the same, or all different? Try pushing the same bullet through each throat and feel for consistency.

I'm a NRA Master in precision. At 50 ft, l never leave the 3" black. These won't stay on paper. All 432 throats, using 432 sized.

I suspect a timing problem. Unload the revolver and look down the barrel with a small light shown through the firing pin hole. With a bit of practice, you can perceive alignment of chamber throats with the bore center line.

Unless someone tried to throat that cylinder using a chucking reamer or worse yet a drill bit, the cylinder, with .432" throats and boolits sized .432" would seem to be the last thing to look at, so I would definitely be looking at timing or a significant thread choke, something bigtime is wrong if it won't even shoot on the paper.

Excellent. So, tell us about the bullets?

Are you saying the 6" M629 shoots the exact same bullets/loads just fine? If not, then we should look at the bullets. If so, then we should look at the gun.

Bevel based .429 commercial bullets (Blue hard lube) have leaded a 629-3 with .433 throats, like a banshee, but will stay on 16 oz plastic pop bottles out to 50yds, for 50 shots. Took an hour to clean the lead out of the barrel. This with 800-900 fps loads.
Flat based, .431 keiths with alox do better, with no leading.

In my old 29-2 I tested diameters about 3 times. Sticking with .430" & Hard Cast. https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?media/44-magnum-soft-alloy.3118/full

I can send you a few .433 GC tc slugs of moderate hardness, if you like.
