I should have added to the title
And BFR 45/70

I took my Lady out to my new land to try deer hunting
I was only looking for a larger buck ( I thought )
But she was looking more for Meat
As her son and daughter both wanted deer burger

Nice morning
We got to the lane back to my land about 4:30 AM
I parked just off the road and we walked the about 300 yards to the edge of the woods

There was 36 rows of corn cut along the edge of the woods . I later counted
My cousin had told me we could hunt the area along the woods and to shoot as many deer as we wanted

I put my lady in a ground blind close to the edge of the woods
With shooting lanes into the woods and out into the field

I went to another ground blind about 400 yards farther down the edge of the woods
But it was farther into the woods with limed shooting lanes to the field
But I had IMO better lanes into the thick part of the woods
As I hoped a big buck would try sneaking in there

She had my Marlin 1895 45/70 rifle with a Leupold 2 x 7 x 33 Shotgun scope
NOE 460 405 Gr RF GC bullet Powder coated bullet out of a soft range lead
Rem case , Fed LR primer and 51 gr of H 3031

I had my BFR in 45/70 with a Ultradot Matchdot 30 MM reddot sight
The same NOE 460 405 Gr RF GC bullet Powder coated bullet out of a soft range lead
Rem case , Fed LR primer and 30 gr of H 4198

Well about 7:45 I heard 2 quick shots from my lady
With a text within 5 min that she had 2 does down
She also texted me another doe would be nice
HINT HINT

Well I held off till 9 AM
Not one decent buck was seen
Only 1 small spike
So when I saw a nice doe at about 40 yards
I put the dot on her shoulder and pulled the trigger

My Lady shot the first doe in the side of the head
The second doe froze for a few seconds and it got hit in the lungs
The second deer ran maybe 20 yards

My doe was hit in the lungs
But angling forward , smashing the off shoulder
It went maybe 10 feet

We field dress the deer and I was able to drive my truck in the corn field to pick up the deer
I drove right up next to each of my ladies deer
I only had a maybe 60 yard drag

After calling in the deer
We and her son spent a few hours converting the deer into tubs of meat
With the back straps and tenderloins saved from the 3 deer
Saturday or Sunday they will grind it and add the pork fat

My Lady is hinting that her oldest grandson had passed his hunter safety course
So I guess I will be taking him deer hunting Saturday LOL

Great story! Nothing like a 45/70 to knock down ANYTHING!

A lady that can handle a 45-70 sounds like a very good catch for sure.

Did you say "naw it's okay all guns kick like that" 👍

That's actually a great load, I gave up on the faster powders because of the sharp recoil pulse you get from a Marlin. Congratulations.

You can add another Marlin 45/70 Ohio doe to the tally. She fell to a 65yd. heart shot complete pass through 350gr FN NOE.

My wife has always said that there is no recoil when shooting game, whether 45-70, 358 Win or 300 Win Mag on elk, deer or pronghorn.
