Gentlemen,
chance made me find a few shotguns. Nothing really fancy, except this one..
It is rather rare here, I had never seen one before.
Made in 1890, It's in excellent condition, perfect functioning, and shiny barrels. Barrels are marked "Damascus steel", so they were re-blued.
What do you think?

Very nice !

Parker gun grades ranged from the most basic Trojan, then up to V or VH for Vulcan, PH, GH, DH, CH, BH, AH and A1 Special.

It looks like a CH-grade gun - what grade is it ? (The grade letter should be stamped into the action's watertable)

Once upon a time, I had a used/pristine VHE Grade 16ga Parker Skeet Gun, with multiple factory options, for bird hunting.

Gorgeous shotgun! That hinge pin style makes it easy to spot a Parker in the gun racks.

Grade D, is there such a thing? I don't find that in the Parker chart.

I add a few pictures for fun.

Thanks for the pic.

It looks like it was made prior to Parker adding an "H" to the grade indicator stamp to designate hammerless guns, as opposed to earlier external exposed hammer guns.

"D" = extractors only

"DE" = D-grade with ejectors

Thanks!
I wonder if one day I should change the barrel blue finish, to a damascus style. I’ve done it several times in the past, it’s a lot of work, and I haven’t been successful every time. This time I'll give the work to a real master gunsmith.
Here is a muzzleloader shotgun I finished, grey damas.

Watch the power levels on your loads with that. Damascus barrels while pretty won't take the load of modern steel.

But you won the lottery IMO.

In Europe (where the OP is posting from), government proof houses proof damascus barrels regularly.

If the barrels pass proof, they are safe to shoot ( I wouldn't shoot magnum shells, though) - provided the rest of the gun is safe (like the action/frame not being off face, cracked, etc, etc)

Wow, Very nice ! When I was much younger I craved older SXS doubles. I had Ithaca’s, LC Smiths, Lefevers, a Fox, a Win., several fine small bore Belgium and English doubles but never found the Parker of my dreams.
I am glad you found this even at a later stage in your life as I can tell it “ Fits your Fistle “ .
Thanks for sharing this beauty ! I still hope to own one it just hasn’t found me yet and I am still looking !

It’s chance... but I’m always looking. And it’s unimaginable how many old guns are left in the attics.

But I didn't get areal answer! Would you change the barrel finish for a grey damas?!
I won’t do it myself, I’m not competent... fortunately I have an excellent master gunsmith!

Very good find.
As long as the current finish is a nice rust blue, as it looks, and is in good condition, I would leave the finish as it is.

RST loads smokeless shells to BP pressures for safe use in the old guns. I use them in my light English game gun.
