What is the smallest diameter bullet nose I can safely cast for use in a 45-70 Lever Gun. I am going to order a mold for a Pedersoli 1886 Winchester Lever Gun. I typically shoot it at 300 yards and want the smallest, most ballistically stable "flat point" that can safely be loaded in the tubular magazine. I have seen .22, .25, .33, .34. Thanks for any help.

I'd say..." 150% of the primer diameter minimum.
For hard recoiling 45-70. . . 0.212*1.5 ~0.32"

(others may go smaller)

I use a lee 515 FN in pure lead with 27 gr of 5744, with a mag primer, in my guide gun. Book says this is in the trap door load range.

I use a Hensley & Gibbs 420gn flat nose (RHS) in my Pedersoli 1886.
