Ever since I made the hard decision to completely convert from j-word to cast boolits it’s been quite the roller coaster ride. But through much trail and testing things are looking positive. My son got his first beck last week and first cast kill as well with the 30-30. Tonight I got my first of the season. An nice meat doe. My biggest obstacle with cast is building confidence in the load and projectile.” We” the consumer have been coached and conditioned my the market to only have faith in what we’re supplied with. And turning away from the marketed product and converting to what’s not popular is a daunting task. Things are looking up307184

well congratulations on your doe
yes you are rite the market is trying to focus or attention and wallets
on their products but we as casters know that they are not the only game in town
remember if you want something done rite do it yourself

Way cool.

Yeah, most people think you can hunt or hit anything without using the latest and greatest fad cartridge in the gun comic books.

There's probably been more deer killed with a .30-30 than most other cartridges combined.
With cast 170s you can pump 'em up to factory/jacketed speeds, and the wound channel they leave is something to behold.

For some reason I can’t reply to the comments and answer you guys individually. I keep getting an error saying enter 3 or more characters.

Anyway the cartridge I used was 308 Winchester out of my savage axis. Shooting the 150 grain FNHP from M&P molds on top of Reloader 7. My most accurate load. Bullet is powder coated blue in middle row

Congratulations to both you and your boy on a successful hunt! However, the current "market" would try to convince you that the venerable 30/30 is insufficient for deer hunting and you NEED a 300 BO or some other fantastic new cartridge to actually kill a deer! My very first rifle was a 30/30 and I STILL hunt with it!

I refuse to conform and hop on the 300 blackout or creedmore or any of the current bandwagons. There’s nothing they can market that hasn’t been done already.

That being said I wouldn’t mind having a 350 legend only because a 358 Winchester or 35 Remington seem impossible without winning the lottery

sloughfoot; If you don't mind, What load are you using in that Savage It's probably got a 1:10 twist. I'm just curious & that killed the cat. 06

The 150 grain hollow point is 28 grain reloader 7 and the 170 grain Lee flat nose is 31 grains 3031
