I inherited an Oliver Super 55 diesel from my Dad. I'm having it rebuilt. The crankshaft had to be reground. I need a source for 20 over main bearings. The part numbers are Federal 903m-20 and Cle (don't know what that abbreviation is) MS405P 20. The machinist said that if all I can get are 30 over he can redo the crank. Apparently bearings are hard to find now.

Any help would be appreciated.

Years ago, a buddy had one of those.
He found out that along with the parts list, you need a treasure map.

If the crank is being reground, the bearings need to be undersized, not oversized, but you probably knew that. I would think that an automotive machinist would know where to get what is needed. "CLE" might be referring to Clevite?

If not mistaken, I believe that the Oliver tractors were equipped with Waukesha engines.

It is also possible that the Super 55 model may have been a "partnership" of sorts with another brand of tractor. Maybe David Brown?

Also, if you can get the dimensions of the bearing, you might be able to match them to another engine where parts are easier to get.

He has tried all his regular suppliers but there are still supply chain issues.

I don't know one Oliver from another, but the diesel Oliver my uncle had, had a Perkins.

Tractor Joe had them on stock. The machinist ordered some too. He had jobs waiting on bearings. He appreciated getting them.

You guys are awesome. Thanks!

I buy most of my tractor parts from Messicks. I believe the CLE abbreviation stand for Clevite brand.
Good Luck,

We rebuilt an Allis Chalmers Model G tractor, with an N62 Continental engine, the crank had been turned undersized -.060, the only available bearings were a smaller undersize -.020. We had the crank welded up, and turned undersized to fit the new bearings. Rebuilding the oil pump was a challenge...............

Was that really 42 years ago..............................?

Federal Mogul - Clevite stuff . Yup, they can spray weld the crank and then turn it to size.

Clevite and Federal Mogul are some of the best bearings money can buy, and they really aren’t expensive compared to others. We have used them for years in everything from 305 to 427 Chevys with no issues for tens of thousands of miles. Grandpa was a parts dealer and engine rebuilder and would not use anything else. I know these choices are based on personal experience. My money would go to these.
