Hey guys. I am about to start making my own pistol jackets which will be drawn by hands. I designed the whole thing. Question is: what would a good jacket thickness be for 9mm? I know it's not economical to do it one by one and by hand by no means, but it's just a hobby I love.
I am thinking of using 0,4mm (.016") or 0,5mm (.02") copper strips so I can work out the punches diameters once I have already lapped carbide inserts / molds. Can post pics if you guys are interested.
Thanks for any info.
Regards

Have you thought about using .380 acp and drawing them out a bit? I think .32 acp will also work without drawing if you can find a supply.

My RCE pistol jackets measure .013 (to answer your question).

you can also use 9mm, trim the cases back to 0.525ish, then draw to 0.354 or so

One could swage 9mm jackets from either 3/8" Refrigerator Copper Tubing, or 5/16 Refrigerator Copper Tubing with the correct dies. 3/8 after making the tube and closing one end, would have to be sized down before swaging cores into the jacket. 5/16 Copper tubing would have to be expanded/Swaged up (Outside diameter of 5/16 tubing is 0.3125 inch). Wall thickness of both tubings are 0.032".

I use 5/16 copper tubing to make a variety of .308 bullets using Corbin Dies.

tks guy for your answers. appreciate it! this is my setup below. all my tools, press, etc were designed by me. the deep drawing inserts (not the molds) are made out of carbide and punches are O1. other molds and dies are mostly 4140. these pics are for drawing only i can post the swaging ones. i am drawing now 0,5mm thick pure copper strips into these cups you can see. there's no thinning out of the jacket walls for now as I am making some new punches for this purposes so I can use smaller copper "coins". not a perfect system but i will get there eventually.
i huge shout out to @andrew_six_point_five for helping me out. tks man!
any tip or comment is welcome.
cheers

awesome job Marcos!!! The dies look fantastic. Glad you went with the extra draw stage to get that longer length. Look forward to seeing some pics.

Nice work, I have zero machining experience so I am jealous.
