I bought this gun new in 2011, shot a few times and never got satisfactory accuracy from it. Then later did some research and found out about cylinder throats being undersize...well, around 2014 or so I was going to rent a reamer from 4D reamer rentals and never did, hence my gun sat in the safe. Fast forward to now, I found out about DougGuy on this forum and sent the cylinder off to him. Opening up those throats made all the difference in the world...thank you Doug. I now have a shooter and no more safe queen! I shot some handloads with the Lee 255 RF and 9.5g Unique and was getting 1 1/2" at 20 yards from the bench and no leading, these were sized .452 and lubed before I started PC. I'm sure it will do better, just needs some trigger work..:)

Good to hear!

just needs some trigger work.

Send just the hammer, and swap in a Wolff 30oz. trigger return spring on re assembly.

Honing or lapping leaves a nicer finish than reaming. I have had both.

A lot of people have traded off a perfectly good Ruger 45 that just needed a little bit of attention. Some of them come just fine from the factory, others need a little bit of cylinder attention. Get it doctored & perhaps a good trigger job & they will serve you well.

I disassembled it the other day and honed the hammer and removed the bur on the sear, just a light touch with the stone is all it took, now breaks clean at about 2 1/2 lbs. The trigger return spring I’ll just leave alone for now..

Do the Uberti 1873's normally need throat work? There is a nice .357 in a shop nearby that keeps calling my name.

You are talking about a revolver correct?

Typically, no. Take two boolits with you, one .357" and one .358" and see which or if both will go through the throats from the front.
