I recently got a used 450 that hadnt been used in a while and has lots of old grease dried up on it/in it and also some old lube still in it. Whats the best way to get rid of this.....boil it?? or ?

Hair dryer works good.

A heat gun ideally but not too common. A flood light, better yet a halogen flood light.

I boil them for about 1/2 to 3/4 of an hour and they come out spotless and dry in a heart beat.
Do the same with you clumped up dies they look brand spankin new.

+ 1 for boiling. I boiled mine & it came out lookin brand new! Before I boiled it, it looked pretty ratty. Amazing what a lil hot water will do.. :drinks:

+2 for boiling it. I have one pot designated just for boiling my lubers and dies.

Heat gun, cleans up like the day it left the factory in very short time.

I've used a heat gun a couple times with the sizer inverted over a receptacle to catch the melted lube. It comes out fast once you get it warmed up. Just keep the heat gun back aways so you don't scorch the paint.

I use my dedicated to lead cookie sheet. The one I use to heat treat boolits on. Lined with AL foil. Strip the sizer of handle and o rings. Pull the lube pump screw out. Then bake at 150 degrees. When it's time to stick a fork in it. Put on my leather gloves and grab a paper towel in one hand. Lift up sizer to poor liquid lube out of low spots and wipe down with towel.

If I had a heat gun I might use that. The oven works pretty good and since I'm a bachelor I can do anything I want in the kitchen.

In the interest of avoiding a divorce proceeding, I used a container outside the house large enough to hold the sizer and carried a large pot of boiling water to it and poured it in. After waiting about 20 minutes, I poured off enough water to remove it with gloves and wiped it down with rags till clean. Warning! Use a container to do this that you don't mind having residual lube left on it.

I use a small hand held propane torch, or a very strong heat lamp. Also, WD40 will always cut through the grease !!!!

Invert the sizer with the top off in a metal dish pan and lay a gooseneck lamp against it, go watch some football and check it out at halftime
