This morning I came across four old 1903/1903a3 walnut scant stocks that were unfinished, unused, and unmarked. Each had the stock reinforcements bolts added. All had some damage, they look like they may have been seconds or somehow damaged with woodworking tools. All could be used, though in some cases filler or some replacement wood would be necessary. Anybody ever run across something like these? I’m considering running back as they were only $30 each. Thoughts?

If it doesn't look terrible and you don't mind bedding them then it could be a nice project.

Last I saw A3 handguards were $30 a pop.

I looked into buying a new military stock and handguard to put my sporterized 1903-A3 back into it's military look and the set (stock / hanguard) were $200 + postage ... even damaged I would spend $30 for a stock ... if not too damaged .
That sounds like a good deal for someone who can do wood repairs .

Years ago old military take off stocks were at gun shows for $20...
... but them days are long gone !

I've got an '03 with a scant stock. Odd looking thing....

I bought a NOS scant stock from I believe Numrich to restore a sporterized 03A3 back to original configuration. It had a couple of minor flaws, but nothing serious. Here are some pictures.

I bought a scant ‘03 stock for a unbubba the bubba sporter rebuild and eliminated the scant. Didn’t feel right to me. The 21 in barrel rifle.

Some folks don't mind the scant stocks, some like them quite a bit for benchrest work. I've a take off that needs TLC, hopefully this winter.

They were also used on some 03A4's back in the day.
